When Understanding It Hasn't Been Enough
Maybe you've talked about it before. Maybe you can explain exactly where it comes from, and you still flinch, shut down, or brace for something that isn't coming. That isn't a failure of insight or effort. It's often a sign that a memory was never fully processed, so your mind and body keep responding as if it's still happening.
What EMDR is
EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. It's a structured, extensively researched therapy, recommended for trauma by organizations including the World Health Organization. While you hold a difficult memory in mind, we use bilateral stimulation—guided eye movements or gentle alternating taps—to help your brain do what it couldn't do at the time: process the experience and file it away as something that is over.
My training
I'm a doctoral-level licensed psychologist, and I've completed EMDRIA-approved EMDR training—the standard set by the EMDR International Association. That means the EMDR I offer follows the full, established protocol, woven together with years of experience helping people heal from trauma. You're getting more than a technique; you're getting someone who knows how to hold the whole of your story.
What it's like
We begin with preparation, not processing. You'll build grounding skills first, and we start only when you feel ready.
You stay in control. You can pause or stop at any point.
You don't have to describe everything out loud. EMDR asks for far less retelling than traditional talk therapy.
The memory doesn't disappear. It simply stops carrying the same charge.
Who it can help
EMDR is best known for trauma and PTSD, and it can also help with the things painful experiences leave behind: anxiety, panic, shame, grief, and beliefs like I'm not safe or I'm not enough. That includes single events, and it includes the quieter, repeated hurts—growing up unseen, rejection for who you are, relationships that taught you to stay small.
Does EMDR work online?
Yes. I offer EMDR by secure video, using on-screen eye movements or self-tapping that I'll guide you through. Many people find it easier to do this work from a place where they already feel at home.
Ready to talk about whether EMDR is right for you?
EMDR can be part of our ongoing therapy together or the main focus of our work. A free 20-minute consultation is a simple place to start.
